How light comes from darkness

A cold rainy January day..back home after crawling the neighborhood mall..the rain has stopped and there's just the wind blowing over the still town that has started to turn in for the night...

From my sixth floor balcony,I pensively contemplate the dark landscape dotted with streetlights in the distance and other lights scattered randomly..various snippets of thought wind their way through my mind, stopping to rest for a while before continuing on their seemingly endless journeys and moving to their logical and not-so-logical conclusions..

Something keeps popping up again and again in the cacophony..some words I came across earlier in the day..'There is just too much bad shit in this world. Why can't everything be fine and everyone get along and why can't all the turmoil end?I just want peace. The world would be a much better place if there was peace at borders,in our lives, our careers and all around'

WOULD IT?

We,the human race, have time and time again stared adversity in the face and learnt to deal with it..We have been hunted, starved, massacred, bombed, shot, controlled, dictated to and have had a host of other things done to us..

Yet we stand taller than ever..Each crisis has spawned heroes, sculpted apart from the teeming millions..people who stand up and be counted, who go about the extra-ordinary with a shrug of the shoulders and a glint in the eye..Take for example the enormous technological progress the world has seen in the 20th  century..We owe it all to a twisted madman in a way.. The second world war was a moment of crisis... A time when the free world was threatened by the cancer of dictator-ship and the imposition of ideas that would have eventually destroyed it.. It spurred mankind in a way seen very few times before..The boundaries of the possible were stretched like never before with one result being the breaking of the physical boundaries of the earth as we took our first small steps and giant leaps into the beyond..

This would not have happened with the speed we saw if it wasn't for the crisis. We, as a whole, are in constant danger of falling prey to that wily trickster,mediocrity..Sometimes,turmoil is a good thing, for it brings out the best in us(some of us at least!).

The human spirit has a way of surprising us all, in ever-changing and mind-boggling ways..When the chips are down, when all seems lost, yet when we rebel against something or hold on to something with a true heart,is when the hero in us rises..when we see ourselves changing as if from a distance.

I see examples of this everyday, but am still amazed as to how it happens..People say the world is a dump. I respectfully disagree.. As long as there are these heroes, the world will keep bouncing back, mankind will keep forging ahead and scale greater and greater heights..

So here's to trouble! For bringing out the best in us!!
